AUSTIN, TX
I had never been to Texas
before so I thought it would be cool if we went there. I don't
know what I thought Texas would be like but it wasn't like I imagined
at all...I was picturing those tumble things and dust and cowboys.
What did I know?? That's not how it is at all. It's
just a regular old city with some very jerky cops!...
I'll give you the quick version
of the story...We rented a car at the airport when we got there.
We flew into Dallas and drove to Austin. The car had North
Carolina plates on it. We go see the shows...On the way back
to the airport we are about an hour outside of Austin on the highway
and we pass a State Trooper who is driving like a turtle (hard to
believe I know). So we keep driving the speed limit and this
a-hole decides to stay right behind us...We get over, he gets over,
etc. Finally we get over again to pass someone and he puts
his lights on and pulls us over...This is after like 20 minutes!
He makes Greg get out of the car and said that he pulled us over
for not signaling at least 100 ft. before we got over...Such Crap!
Obviously he just wanted to chat with us, asking where we are coming
from...why we were there...you know the schtick! Such a dirtbag...He
gave us a warning and let us go. The moral to this story is...If
you are ever in Texas be prepared to be harrassed!
There's a reason why they wrote that song...Get me out of this
small time Texas town....
On to the shows...What an amazing trip we had!!

This is all I had for a ticket and you can't see it very well...Oh
well!

Opener:
Tenacious D.
I have to say this show was
very short. I was a little disappointed, but not with Cheese.
Since we had to drive from Austin we got there a little late.
We were there before it started but we couldn't get all the way
up front so we were stuck in the back with a bunch of high school
kids who thought "The D." was the best thing ever!
They ended up playing too long which cut SCI short...Bastards!
It was still a good show but after the next 2 nights I didn't care!
The encore was pretty good with Jack Black...He is pretty funny
with some things that he says. We met some pretty cool people
there that said they met Billy in the Whole Foods the next day
and he said they were really under a time constraint and they were
a little bothered by it.
Here's the venue by the way...I have to say
there were a million porta-potties and if you got there early it
was almost like going in a real pottie...I'm kindof a toilet snob
:)

Opener: The Weary Boys

This isn't a very good picture
but we had this guy take our picture...Can't remember his name...Anyway
he wanted to put the crystal into the picture and we didn't really
get it but we said OK. It ended up that when Travis came out
on the stage he came over to the crowd and asked the guy for the
crystal and then he put it by his drums. Apparently they were
friends. As you can see we had first row on the wall...I love
being up there! The opener was the Weary Boys...They were
good. Some real down home boys!

First off I have to comment
on the Opener...What a wacked out way to open a show and I felt
we deserved an explanation of that. Supposidly, they were
filming a movie about a musician (a horrible musician) and we were
all supposed to hate him...It worked. That was the worst thing
ever! It was painful, but I think that was supposed to be
the point. Other than that it was an awesome show.
Texas was a great time...We
are thinking we will have to do it again next year!
