California/Vegas

This was a super long trip...Longest to date for Greggy and I...8 days.  We had such a blast...We covered some serious territory.  Every show was amazing, every where we went was amazing.  This entire trip was all places that I had never been before...I love trips like that!!!  So, this is how the trip went...

Day 1 - 10/26/02 - Saturday

We arrived in Las Vegas, Rented a car, and drove to LA.  It was about a 5 hour drive...Not too bad.  In LA we stayed at Greg's cousins house.  We had a really good time.  Watched the World Series.  It was fun!

Day 2 - 10/27/02 - Sunday

Sunday was a nice day...We hung out, went down to the ocean, saw the beach, hung out with our friend we used to work with...Ate lunch in this diner in Hollywood that they filmed part of Swingers at.  Then we cruised along Mullhulland Drive for a while.  Very Cool!

Day 3 - 10/28/02 - Monday

Ugh...We had to wake up at 5:30 am and drive to the Hearst Castle in San Something North of San Luis Obispo.  We were so damn tired.  It was cool, though, we took the PCH all the way up to Oxnard, and drove through Malibu, saw Pepperdine...It was really pretty.  We stopped in Santa Barbara and ate at this cute little place called The Daily Bread.  I wish we could have spent more time there but we had a 1:20 appointment at the castle!  So, off we went...All the way up to San Wherever.  The Hearst Castle is awesome!!!  That man had way too much money!!!

Check out this pool!!!

I can't even tell you how cool this place is...You should definitely go if you get the chance!

So then after that we checked into our Motel 6, and we were off to the show.  It was at the Cal Poly Rec Center and it was a tiny show...We of course got the rail, stage Kang!

Day 4 - 10/29/02 - Tuesday

We woke up early again, this time with plans to stop in Santa Barbara and look around.  We ended up getting a coffee somewhere there and getting back on the road.  We arrived in San Diego pretty early and went to La Jolla and looked around.  Then we ate lunch at this really cool place called the Crab Catcher...What a view!  It was really good too!  I highly recommend it.

This was my favorite show of all 5!  It was at UCSD.  They played a San Jose (which happens to be one of my favorites) in the second set that was amazing!  I mean unbelievable, possibly better than the version with Bela Fleck! (If you haven't heard that then you need to go out and find it and listen to it!!!!!)  I am definitely getting this on CD!  Once again we were on the rail, stage Kang.

10/29/2002 Rimac Arena - San Diego, CA

Day 5 - 10/30/02 - Wednesday

Today we had nothing planned...No shows, just a dream to be on the Price is Right :)  We called but you have to get tickets way in advance.  So we ruled that out.  Instead, we went to Coronado and looked around for a while.  Then we went over to Old Town where we wandered around for a little bit.  Then we decided to go to Pacific Beach and watch the surfers and the sunset.  That was cool, but it went by pretty fast.  We then went back to Old Town to eat at The Old Town Cafe.  Damn good mexican food!!  By this time it was about 7:00...We had nothing to do!  We ended up watching the Sopranos in the room and drinking a bottle of wine...Good thing Motel 6 has HBO!!!

Day 6 - 10/31/02 - Thursday

HALLOWEEN!!!!!  This was awesome.  Halloween at the Shrine!  It was so fun to get all dressed up in costumes.  There were some great costumes there!  We got to walk in on the red carpet...How Fun!  The show was awesome also...3 sets, the middle set commemorating dead musicians.  Here we stayed at our friend, Patricks, house.  This show we were about 4 rows back.

That picture is really bad, but it's the only one I had :(

How cute...Katie and Patrick were a priest and a catholic school girl.

Greg getting ready in the parking lot...

Some other great costumes...

The Royal Tenenbaums...Hehe            Patrick...The disgruntled priest :)

Day 7 - 11/01/02 - Friday

Once again we woke up early and drove to Vegas.  That was a long scary drive...We witnessed a horrible accident and the saw a car completely flipped and smashed up.  I was a little traumatized.  We tried to look them up in the paper but couldn't find anything about it.  I hope they are alright!

So we arrived in Vegas and returned the car.  We the proceeded to check into our hotel (New York, New York).  That was quite an interesting hotel.  The lobby is a look alike of New York...It's pretty cool, they did a good job.  A few things to look out for :

  1. The pizza - It is not like New York pizza
  2. The Roller Coaster - It's 12.00 to ride that thing and it isn't that  great!
  3. The cheesy bars where everyone is drunk and singing bad cover songs

Other than that it was fun.  Those people standing out on the street handing out those hooker cards is a trip!  We saw some good stuff but I didn't see enough I don't think (not with the hooker cards, with Vegas!).  Oh well, I am not dyeing to go back, but it was fun!  We took a nap and then headed over to the show.  I did not like the venue for this show and I was actually late getting into the show because of long lines and horrible security.  I still managed to be on the rail, stage Kang!

This venue was across the highway from the strip also which made it a pain to get there.  We would walk there and cab it back.

11/1/2002 Rio Pavilion - Las Vegas, NV

1: Best Feeling > Mountain Jam > Smile, Sittin' on Top of the World, Seventh Step, Up the Canyon, Got What He Wanted > Jam > Outside Inside

E: Boogie on Reggae Woman

Day 8 - 11/02/02 - Saturday

We didn't do much today...Hung out and went to the show...Got in line at about 4:30 and it was tough...There was a lot of pushing and shoving, but we got close to the rail on our final night!

11/2/2002 Rio Pavilion - Las Vegas, NV

1: Big Shoes, Shine, Skin it Back > Rhythm of the Road, Another Night, Sand Dollar² > Texas

2: Desert Dawn, Emma's Dream > It Is What It Is, Just Passing Through¹, Walk This Way > ¡BAM!, Way Back Home > Land's End Reprise > Way Back Home

E: Ring of Fire, Daryl

Day 9 - 11/03/02 - Sunday

Nothing exciting here...we got on the plane and flew home...The flight was fast as hell though..3 hours and 45 minutes...You can't beat it!

Well, that is our vacation in a condensed version...We had a great time and look forward to taking our next!  For now, we are broke :)  Don't forget to view the Pressure Ratings for this vacation...You'll be sorry if you don't!!!!!
